Downtown Eastside

A very interesting place. Poverty, drug use, mental instability and general misery runs rampant. I found a grounding reality check when looking into the dirty, gaunt, semi conscious faces of the occupants of East Hastings. A renewed appreciation and respect for the state of my own life followed me home. Humble is an experience I am proud to say I enjoy.

What you witnessed was the tip of the iceburg. This is not to lessen the severity of how a society can conveniently marginalize a group. This is done so that we do not have to face reality...we``zero`` other humans in order not face our own vulnarabilities. We have been driven to believe that ``success`` equivocates social status and financial gains.

The few that choose to venture in such areas and open their eyes, will realize that with a few twist on the road of life; it could have been them as the homeless, the emotionaly challenged and the drug dependant.

Facing such things takes strength, as is allowing such exposures to dial us back to zero from our culturaly induced dream state.

You can`t be balanced without being grounded.
